Our History

Our Origin, Our Name

CCHC, a non-profit organization, began in 1969 when local citizens, many from the area church community, met to address the lack of decent and affordable housing in Newport County. From that origin came our name, Church Community Housing Corporation.

In the years since, CCHC has developed over 900 homes, rehabilitated another 1,500, and has integrated neighborhood revitalization, energy efficiency, and ecologically conscious building materials into our developments.

Based in Newport County, Church Community Housing Corporation (CCHC) is dedicated to helping low- and moderate-income persons in Rhode Island to live in safe, decent, affordable housing and neighborhoods

Our Lineage

1969

Church Community Housing Corporation officially incorporated with the State of Rhode Island

1970

First Home Ownership property built in Newport.

1983

Mumford Manor in Newport becomes CCHC's first Senior Housing Project.

1989

50 Washing Square in Newport complete and is nationally recognized as RI's first emergency shelter and transitional housing development.

1991

CCHC partners with the Town of Jamestown to build Pemberton Place, a 12 unit senior housing development.

1997

Redeveloped a vacant office building to create West House, a 50 unit elderly housing facility in Middletown.

1998

Developed Villa Nia, a 15 unit development for physically disabled individuals.

1999

Partnered with Forest Farms Health Care Center to develop RI's first affordable assisted living facility.

2001

Received National Excellence Award for redevelopment of Harbor House.

2006

Partners with Newport Mental Health to develop Freedom Apartments

2010

Develops Sandywoods, an arts and agricultural community, in Tiverton

2013

Completed construction on Bridges Inc. development in Jamestown. 5 units of housing for adults with developmental disabilities.

2016

Completed construction on the new Lucy's Hearth location in Middletown.
